The Tree of Life is a large tree that appears in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. It protects PacWorld from devastation and acts as the primary source of the Power Berries.

Appearance

The Tree of Life is a giant tree with a thick green trunk and many branches. Although its structure of its branches closely resembles that of deciduous trees, its leaves are based on palm leaves. Power Berries grow from the Tree's branches. Many are found in small bunches while others, especially the larger Berries, grow individually.

The Tree of Life is one of the oldest trees in PacWorld, dating back to prehistoric times. Many of the Power Berries produced during this time period can still be found on hanging on the top branches of the Tree. A particular type of prehistoric Berry is capable of transforming Pacster into Pac-Kong.

History

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures

The Tree of Life is the main source of Power Berries for Pacster, Spiral, and Cylindria. Whenever the trio run out of Power Berries, they head to the Tree to restock. The Tree produces a great variety of Berries, allowing Pac to have access to multiple powers. The Tree is not just a source of power, though. It is also acts as a safeguard for Pac-World. If the Tree is close to dying or is removed from PacWorld, the planet quickly descends into an apocalyptic state, such as the one shown in "The Adventure Begins, Part II". Civilization would be much more prone to collapse during this state, hence why the Tree is frequently targeted by Betrayus.

To protect both it and the Power Berries it produces, the Tree of Life is kept in a top-secret location in Pac-World's capital, Pacopolis. Although there are multiple such locations, the Tree is most commonly hidden inside the large dome that is connected to the Round House. The Tree's exact location is hidden from the general public, and only a select few are allowed to know. This group includes, Pac, Spiral, Cylindria, President Spheros, and Sir Cumference.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Wii U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)

Although the Tree of Life itself does not appear in this game, it is the target of one of Betrayus' schemes. Betrayus plans to construct a Ghost Ray to turn to the Tree of Life into a "Tree of Death." In order to do so, however, he needs to get a stone tablet from the Temple of Mystery, located directly under his own castle. Although Betrayus does finish his Ghost Ray, Pacster is able to destroy it.

At the end of the game, Sir Cumference reveals that the three tablets Pacster collected identify the Tree of Life as the sole source of Power Berries in the universe.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Nintendo 3DS)

In the Nintendo 3DS game, the Tree of Life is stolen by the ghosts. They were able to do so with the help of a size manipulation ray invented by Dr. Buttocks. Due to the Tree's absence, Pacster no longer has easy access to Power Berries. However, President Spheros and Sir Cumference realize they can use Pac's potted plant as a temporary alternative source.

Pacster manages to successfully defeat Betrayus and take back the Tree of Life. The game ends with him and the Ghost Gang delivering the Tree to the Round House and restoring it to its proper size.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2

Pacster finds a younger version of the Tree of Life during prehistoric times. He uses one of the Tree's Kong Berries to defeat the Pacasaurus Pex that is guarding the Repository. This younger Tree is also a prop that can be found at the end of Kong Berry Cliffs, the penultimate level of the Prehistoric world.

The Tree of Life can also be visited in the hub world. It is accessible through the Round House.

Similar Plants

There are certain plants throughout the series that, like the Tree of Life, are capable of producing Power Berries or other types of Berries with special abilities.

Pac's Potted Plant

Pacster is shown to own a small palm tree that was left behind for him by his parents. In the show, the potted plant produces purple Power Berries. Although these Power Berries do not give Pac any special power, they do allow him and his friends to survive the Netherworld's harsh climate.

The potted plant plays a much more critical role in the 3DS game as unlike in the show, the potted plant was capable of producing a variety of Power Berries, and provided all the Power Berries that Pacster used throughout the game, all of which were able to give him the same forms as their Tree of Life counterparts; however, its small size limits what kind of Berries he can have and take with him at the start of a stage, and how long the form could last per Berry (with the exception of the Spin Berry, in which it lasted for as long as it was needed for or until Pac loses a life). Should Pac run out of a type of berry, he can pass through a marker in a level where one of the Ghost Gang can bring some Power Berries from the potted plant that the Icon on the marker represents to Pac (in the case of the Stone or Spin Berries, if Pacster looses a life or for the Stone Berry, if Pac returns to where the it was given.), or during boss battles, they can bring the recommended Power Berry type on the fly if Pacster runs out of that type of Berry.

Pacster can also collect special fertilizer bags color coded for a specific Berry in each of the game's stages (i.e Red for Fire Berries, Green for Chameleon Berries, etc.), which can be used to improve how well the potted plant could grow that Berry after the stage was completed, increasing how long each form bestowed by that Berry could last, how many of that Berry Pac can take with him, and unlocking a second ability that cannot be used otherwise. There are also Yellow fertilizer bags that increased Pac's maximum health when they were used.

Berry Bush of Youth

The Berry Bush of Youth is an aquatic plant located in the center of PacLantis. It produces Berries of Youth, which restore the youthfulness of whomever consumes it, including ghosts.

The Berry Bush appears in the episode "PacLantis". When Pacster, his friends, Betrayus, and the Ghost Gang find the Berry Bush, they find that it has only one Berry of Youth. Everyone tries to grab the Berry for themselves, but it ends up getting eaten by a Pac-Shark. The episode also shows that trying to remove the Berry Bush from its spot, as Pacster and Dr. Buttocks attempt to do, causes PacLantis to disappear.

Trivia

• The Tree of Life bears similarity with the Power Pellet Trees from Hanna-Barbera's Pac-Man as both produce a kind of fruit that empowers whomever consumes it.
• In the E3 2010 pilot trailer for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, the Tree of Life is referred to as the Power Palm Tree.
  • Although this early name would be dropped in favor of the Tree's current name, it is actually used once in the final series. Spiral refers to the Tree of Life as "the Power Palm" at the beginning of "The Adventure Begins, Part II".
