Pixels is a live action/animated film released by Sony Pictures in 2015. The movie is about aliens in the form of video game characters coming to attack earth. An alien taken the form of Pac-Man appears as a lead villain in the film.

Connections to the Pac-Man series

Pac-Man appears in the movie as one of the arcade invaders. He destroys New York City, eating everything in his path. A fictionalized version of Pac-Man's creator Tōru Iwatani, portrayed by Denis Akiyama, tries to reason with him; Pac-Man bites his hand off, and continues rampaging through the city.

Trivia

• A mobile game titled Pixels Defense was released in 2015 as a tie-in with the movie.
• The Pac-Man arcade machines in the film use assets based on the fan-made "PACANAC" vectors from the early 2000s, which have varying inaccuracies compared to the original Bally Midway artwork.
