"You shall burn with your precious Pac-Land! So long, Pac-Man." |
Spooky (スプーキー Supuukii) is both the main antagonist and final boss of Pac-Man World 2 and it's remake Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac.
In Pac-Man World 2, his main goal was to get his tree, Wormwood, to hold all five Golden Fruit. He was originally captured and held under the Golden Fruit tree by the brave Sir Pac-A-Lot, but one night, the Ghost Gang were fooling around in Pac-Village and picked the Golden Fruit from the tree. Spooky escaped from his imprisonment and ordered the ghosts to destroy Pac-Man and all the residents of Pac-Land.
Appearance
Spooky is a large, looming ghost of massive size who emits a dark aura of intimidation. He wears a horned helmet, shoulder guards, and red gloves, with chest armor depicting a dead Pac-Person. Spooky has three clawed fingers, and crimson eyes. In Pac-Man World 2, he is a purple ghost; in Pac-Man World Rally, he is dark gray. Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac, adds a red cape to his usual outfit, with a purple diamond brooch that holds his cape together.
Personality
Unlike the common ghosts of Ghost Island, Spooky represents what evil actually is. He is angry, intimidating, and deadly powerful. He is fear-loving and enjoys the suffering of others. He seeks danger on a very high scale. He is very sadistic and enjoys having a good fight as he taunts Pac-Man throughout the battle in World 2 Re-Pac.
Powers
Spooky with his magic staff
Spooky is a very powerful being capable of using all sorts of magic. Although much of his power comes from his staff, it appears he can also use magic without it. For example, he can look at the ground and cause it to crack. He is able to shoot fireballs, summon various creatures, and cause a meteor shower.
Spooky's other powers include his being able daze Pac-Man for a short amount of time, and creating a powerful tornado made of energy, lightning, and fire.
History
Past
Sir Pac-A-Lot facing off against Spooky
Spooky's goal was to terrorize Pac-Land and destroy the existence of the Pac-People. However, he hardly had any help in struggling to take it over.
To stop Spooky's reign of terror, a noble knight named Sir Pac-A-Lot reached Spooky and dueled against him for a long while. Spooky eventually lost the fight and was sealed away under the biggest tree in the middle of Pac-Village. He was locked under it by five golden fruit (resembling the ones that Pac-Man eats during the game) which would keep him sealed for eternity so long as the Golden Fruits remained.
In Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac, it is revealed that the knight was actually Pac-Man the entire time.

Spooky explaining his evil plan to the Ghosts
"At last, I am free from the confines of this accursed prison! You there! Take these Golden Fruit that imprisoned me and follow me, if you want to get rid of these Pac-People... Forever! Ha ha ha ha ha!" |
Spooky appeared outside of the tree when the four ghosts, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde removed the golden fruit in an attempt to vandalize Pac-Village. Spooky emerges from the tree and explains his evil plan to the ghosts on how they will steal the fruit and destroy the Pac-People and rule Pac-Land. Spooky and the Ghosts then leave to prepare Spooky's plan. Pac-Man and his family were asleep during the whole commotion but by morning after discovering the fruits were missing, Pac-Man went in search for them and battled his way through Spooky's forces.
Pac-Man World 2 Cutscene 3
"You'll never stop me!" |
During a long adventure, Spooky’s minion, Wormwood, attempts to stop Pac-Man. After that fails, and a dying Wormwood calls out to Spooky, the latter appears, and discovers, to his horror, that Wormwood had been bested. Spooky reacts in shock and disbelief at Pac-Man, who had bested Wormwood. He then vows that all of Pac-Land would pay for what Pac-Man had done, even going as far as to gloat that the golden fruit tree would be nothing save for broken branches after Spooky was done with it, before disappearing. After Pac-Man somehow follows him back to Pac-Village, the latter tells him that he won't give up his plan, thus the battle is on.
After a long battle, Pac-Man strikes at Spooky, until the Golden Fruit Tree’s base opens to reveal a vortex, sucking Spooky into it. Spooky protests that he would not be imprisoned again, curses Pac-Man out, swiping at him, and gloats that the ghosts would free him again, seconds before he was resealed within his ancient prison, much like what Sir Pac-A-Lot had done, thousands of years ago. Thus Spooky was bested, bringing peace in Pac-Land for many more years to come.
In World 2 Re-Pac; after the last hit, all of the Golden Fruit get knocked out of Spooky with the Golden Melon rolling away from Pac-Man. Spooky takes the opportunity to attack him from behind with a giant fireball and nearly kills him with a bolt of lightning that sends him flying off the arena; the Golden Fruit end up saving Pac-Man and turn him into Golden Pac-Man. In a last ditch effort to defeat Pac-Man, Spooky summons a giant meteor to stop him but his powers overpower the meteor and destroys the scepter which causes Spooky to dissipate. Thus Spooky was bested, bringing peace in Pac-Land for many more years to come.

Boss Fight
Pac-Man World 2
At the beginning, it shows Pac-Man putting the Golden Fruit back on the tree. His reward is a Golden power up that never wears off. Spooky comes out from behind the tree and cuts the boundary of the village circle. This causes the piece of ground to fly up in the air while being surrounded by a deadly tornado storm. Prickly bushes sprout everywhere. The stormy tornado surrounding the battlefield is filled with flying debris and is deadly to the touch. Pac-Man will instantly perish if he makes contact with it. During the battle, Spooky can summon enemies to attack Pac-Man and can also shoot fireballs and cause a meteor shower of meteors made of energy and fire. Plus, he can daze Pac-Man for a short amount of time with a spell.
Spooky will fly around the terrain shooting meteors at Pac-Man with his scepter/staff. He will also use his scepter to summon enemies to appear on the battlefield to help defeat Pac-Man. The enemies vary in the different phases in the battle. It starts with Neander Pacs, Pac-Asites, and Spiders in the first phase. It then switches to Spiders, Pac-Asites, and Skeletons in the second phase. And finally just Skeletons and Rev Roll Rams in the last phase. Eventually Spooky will levitate low enough for Pac-Man to Flip Kick him. This process repeats two more times and then Spooky will shoot fireballs and the fire will follow Pac-Man. Keep Flip Kicking him when he in reach. At the end of the battle, if Pac-Man lets Spooky levitate in the air for a certain amount of time, Pac-Man will become dizzy for a few moments. A few more Flip Kicks will defeat Spooky.
Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac
In Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac, the fight has been modified so Spooky he completely destroys the Golden Fruit Tree, only summons skeletons and has more varied attacks.
- Summons six fireballs that are fired and rolled towards Pac-Man. He can alternatively fire three at a time.
- Summons six pillars of lightning that roam around the arena to damage Pac-Man.
Spooky tells Pac-Man that he's enjoying the fight and promptly absorbs the Golden Strawberry, Cherry and Orange which causes his gloves to turn partially golden and duplicate himself (with the clones having yellow Pac-People symbols). Attacking the clone will cause it to laugh and dissipate.
- Spooky and the clones make a triangle formation made of electricity from the scepter and orbit around Pac-Man while closing in and out from the center of the arena. Lightning pillars also show up.
- Firing the fireballs which now burn the arena instead alongside the clones.
- Spooky and the clones rushing towards Pac-Man to scratch him.
Spooky gets fed up with Pac-Man keeping up the fight and absorbs the Golden Apple and Melon to completely encase himself in gold and grow gigantic. He now has the following attacks:
- Slamming his fist on the arena to form large tremors which electricity comes from.
- Summoning lightning pillars in different formations to go towards Pac-Man in various ways.
- Summon skeletons.
- Attack Pac-Man with fourteen homing fireballs, flung in two volleys. They burn the arena for a brief period of time.
- Lifting rocks from the arena to slam them back down and create quakes that damage Pac-Man.
- Pac-Man must scale these rocks with perfectly timed butt bounces to rev roll into Spooky's head three times.
Trivia
- The cancelled Pac-Man Ghost Zone was going to feature a character named Spooky, as evidenced by the design document and leaked assets. The connection between these characters is likely coincidental, as they bear no other resemblance to each other.
- Spooky is the first and only Pac-Man character to curse in the franchise, saying "hell" during his defeat in the post-game of Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac.
